Making Remembrance Accessible: Prints of "Red Birds, Waiting: June 6th, 2011" Now Available
Red Birds, Waiting: Making the Work Accessible Through Limited Edition Prints
Fifteen years ago, on June 6th, 2011, six soldiers of 1/7 Field Artillery, 2‑1 ID were killed at FOB Loyalty in Baghdad. I was wounded that day. Their names, their faces, and the weight of that moment have lived inside me ever since. Earlier this year, I painted Red Birds, Waiting: June 6, 2011 as a way to honor them — a piece rooted in remembrance, grief, and the quiet endurance that follows loss.
The original painting will be donated to Heroes in Transition, an organization doing vital work for Veterans, Active Duty Service members, and their families across Cape Cod and New England. It felt right that the original should live in a place committed to healing and community support. Some stories are meant to be held by more than one person.
But I also knew that many people — Veterans, families, friends, and supporters — might want to keep a piece of this story close. And not everyone can afford an original painting. I don't believe art should be unreachable, especially when it carries meaning that belongs to more than just me.
So I decided to create limited edition prints of Red Birds, Waiting: June 6th, 2011.
Why Prints Matter for This Piece
Prints allow this work to travel farther than the original ever could. They let people who feel connected to the story bring it into their homes, their offices, their quiet spaces. They make the artwork accessible without diminishing the significance of the original.
Each print comes with:
-
A Certificate of Authenticity
-
My signature
-
A story card that shares the meaning behind the piece and the lives it honors
These prints aren’t just reproductions — they’re extensions of the original’s purpose.
A Gift of Remembrance
To honor the anniversary, I’ve released five prints for free to the five collectors that otherwise couldn't afford the work. This is my way of giving back to the community that has supported me, and to the people who carry their own memories of service, sacrifice, and loss.
Shipping applies, but the print itself is free — a small gesture of gratitude. If I ever "make it big," I'll do my best to increase these freebies.
Twenty More Prints Available
Beyond the free edition, I’ve made twenty prints available for purchase. This ensures that anyone who wants to bring this work into their life can do so at a price that’s accessible, while still supporting the time, materials, and care that go into buying and preparing each piece for sale.
Honoring the Fallen, Supporting the Living
The original painting’s donation to Heroes in Transition is a way of giving back to the community that continues to support Veterans and their families. The prints are a way of making sure the story doesn’t end there — that it can be carried forward, shared, and remembered.
If you’d like one of the limited prints, or if you’d like to join the waitlist for future editions, you can find them on my website. Thank you for being part of this work, for honoring these men with me, and for helping keep their memory alive.
